Jobful Growth for Rajasthan 2019–2024

Rajasthan’s economy is growing, but jobs aren’t keeping up. Over the next five years, 21 lakh new jobs are needed, but under the current trajectory, only 14 lakh will be created, leaving 7 lakh people unemployed. Agriculture still employs 41% of the workforce, but its contribution to the economy is shrinking, meaning many farmers are underemployed and struggling. Industries and services are growing, but not fast enough to provide jobs for everyone. The report suggests focused efforts in natural resource regeneration, solar energy, tourism, infrastructure, and public services to bridge this employment gap.

One of Rajasthan’s biggest challenges is land and water degradation, which threatens rural livelihoods. A large-scale restoration program -to revive soil, forests, and water bodies-could generate 10 lakh jobs, while also protecting the environment. Similarly, building roads, houses, and better urban infrastructure can create 5 lakh more jobs, helping both rural and urban workers.

Rajasthan is also perfectly positioned to become a solar energy hub. By expanding solar panel manufacturing, installation, and maintenance, the state could generate 1 lakh additional jobs in clean energy. Tourism, a key sector, could also grow by shifting focus beyond sightseeing to experience-based tourism, bringing in high-spending visitors and boosting employment.

A major issue is low female workforce participation (only 27%). The report proposes a daycare support program to help women stay in the workforce, adding 4 lakh jobs. Additionally, filling 1 lakh government job vacancies in education, healthcare, and law enforcement would improve public services while providing stable employment.

To achieve this job-rich growth, the state needs ₹75,000 crore over five years, but these investments will create lasting economic stability, improve livelihoods, and secure Rajasthan’s future.
