The document explores how Chhattisgarh can become a high-tech power electronics manufacturing hub, focusing on Silicon Carbide (SiC) technology as a game-changer for India’s electronics and semiconductor industry. Currently, India relies heavily on imports for key semiconductor components, especially from China. With rising demand for electric vehicles (EVs), solar energy, and data centers, building a domestic supply chain is crucial. The report identifies Taiwan as an ideal technology partner for SiC production, offering opportunities to develop India’s semiconductor value chain and drive local manufacturing.
India’s electronics market is booming, expected to reach $400 billion by 2025. However, most of this demand is met through imports. Power electronics—used in EVs, renewable energy, and industrial applications—could be worth $720 billion by 2030, making it essential for India to manufacture these technologies locally. SiC semiconductors are a critical part of this growth because they offer higher efficiency, lower power loss, and better heat resistance, making them perfect for next-generation electronics.
With strong industrial infrastructure and government policies supporting electronics manufacturing, Chhattisgarh is well-positioned to host an SiC-based power electronics hub. The plan suggests partnering with Taiwan for technology transfer, setting up semiconductor fabrication (Fab) plants, and investing in workforce development. A phased investment approach is proposed, starting with SiC system design and production, followed by full-scale manufacturing and assembly.
By developing a homegrown semiconductor industry, India can reduce its dependence on imports, create high-tech jobs, and establish itself as a global leader in power electronics manufacturing. With the right investments and policies, Chhattisgarh can play a key role in India’s electronics revolution.
